Why I started The Whisky Index
I'm Toby Farrant, founder of The Whisky Index. Before starting it, I worked in the alternative assets market, and have been in whisky for a number of years.
Seeing the cask market from the inside, I saw how hard it could be for buyers to know what a fair price looked like, or to be certain a cask was truly theirs. The Whisky Index is my answer: every cask priced openly per litre of alcohol, every buyer registered as the owner at the warehouse, and no promises about returns.
The Whisky Index is independent. It has no ownership or commercial connection with either of my former employers.
What that means in practice
- Every cask's real details, or an honest gap. We show what's genuinely recorded, never a plausible-sounding guess standing in for a field we don't actually have.
- The full price, upfront. Nothing added at checkout.
- No investment promises. We don't tell anyone which cask will rise in value, because nobody genuinely knows that in advance.
