FAQ
Answers to common questions about live supplier-backed casks, guide prices, offer checks, risk and buyer enquiries.
Are the casks on the marketplace real?
Yes. The public marketplace is designed to show current supplier-backed cask opportunities that have been approved for public display. Availability should still be reconfirmed before any buyer conversation progresses.
Can I buy a cask instantly online?
No. The Whisky Index is enquiry-led. You request details, the team reviews fit and availability, and documents, warehouse position and transfer route are checked before progression.
What does guide asking price mean?
Guide asking price is the buyer-facing price shown for a current opportunity. It is not a guaranteed future value, not a guaranteed sale price, and not a promise of return.
Does Second Opinion compare against your live prices?
Where relevant, Second Opinion compares submitted offers against current supplier-backed guide-price context on The Whisky Index. If no close live comparison exists, the result should be treated as requiring manual review.
What does supplier-backed mean?
Supplier-backed means the opportunity is understood to come from a supplier or source with access to the cask. It does not remove the need to confirm documents, warehouse process, seller authority and transfer route before proceeding.
Why is transfer review still pending?
A cask can be available with documents and warehouse position understood, while the final transfer process still needs to be confirmed. Transfer-readiness is treated as a separate risk layer.
Do you show supplier cost or margin?
No. Public pages show buyer-facing guide asking prices and cask details. Supplier cost, margin, private supplier references and internal notes are kept private.
Do you guarantee returns or liquidity?
No. Whisky casks can be illiquid and risky. The Whisky Index does not guarantee resale value, buyer demand, profit, sale timing, suitability, title, warehouse transfer or future performance.
