How independent verification works on The Index, and what it does and doesn’t guarantee.
What does "verified" actually mean?
It means we independently checked the asset against the sources available for its category before it could be listed: never just a self-declared description. See our full verification standards on the Learn page.
How is each category verified?
Whisky is cross-checked against the bonded warehouse’s own records where possible. Watches are checked by serial and reference number against manufacturer records where available. Wine provenance and case/bottle records are reviewed. Graded cards require an existing PSA, CGC, or BGS certification number, cross-checked against that grading body’s own public lookup.
How long does verification take?
It varies by category and how complete your submitted documents are. Every decision, approved or rejected, is logged with who reviewed it and when, so there’s always a record of what happened to your submission.
What if my asset is rejected?
You’ll see the verification status update on your dashboard. If you believe supporting evidence was missed, you can register again with more complete documentation.
Does verification guarantee value or future price?
No. Verification confirms what we were actually able to check: it is not a warranty of authenticity, condition, or value beyond that, and never a guarantee of future price or resale demand. See our risk disclosure on the Learn page.
