Pricing Methodology
How The Whisky Index reviews guide asking prices, offer checks, liquidity, confidence and pricing risk.
Important legal notice
The Whisky Index provides information, workflow tools, indicative valuation support, marketplace presentation, document review workflows, and buyer/seller matching support. We do not provide investment, financial, legal, tax, insurance, HMRC, or regulatory advice. Whisky casks are specialist assets and may be illiquid, difficult to verify, difficult to transfer, and may lose value. Nothing on this site guarantees ownership title, warehouse confirmation, transfer completion, buyer demand, sale price, resale timing, profit, or future performance.

Guide asking prices
Marketplace prices are guide asking prices for current approved supplier-backed opportunities. They are not supplier cost, not guaranteed sale values, and not promises of future performance. Availability, documents, warehouse position, pricing and transfer route should be reconfirmed before any transaction progresses.
Second-opinion offer checks
When a user submits an offer for review, the platform compares it against current supplier-backed guide-price context where relevant. If no close live comparison exists, the output should be treated as requiring manual review rather than a definitive market value.
What affects cask pricing
Pricing context may consider distillery, vintage, age, cask type, wood type, RLA/OLA, ABV, warehouse position, document clarity, supplier backing, transfer-readiness, scarcity, buyer fit and comparable evidence where available.
Liquidity and buyer demand
Liquidity and buyer-demand indicators are relative decision-support signals. They do not guarantee buyer availability, buyer suitability, reservation, completion, resale value, profit or timing.
What this is not
Pricing methodology is not investment advice, financial advice, legal advice, tax advice, a regulated valuation, a guaranteed sale price, a promise of return, or a guarantee that any cask is suitable for any user.
